RICH MEEHAN PROJECT
RICH MEEHAN PROJECT – HIGH STREET STAGE – SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER – 3.45 PM
The Rich Meehan Project is an innovative instrumental act which sprung out of the need many musicians felt to be creative during the time of COVID, but which has gone on to find its place in the real world. Supporting composer-pianist Richard Meehan, are the virtuoso talents of drummer Paul Glover, and bassist James Newman. The group also invite friends and guests to work with them, most significantly electronics maestro Jon Bierman; a Canadian resident and obsessive collector of audio tech.
The RMP fuses classical, jazz, and electronica to make a blend which is unique and interesting, but accessible, and which leaves room for the listener to breathe and add their own musical makeups. They place their approach and language among artists such as The Bad Plus, GoGo Penguin and David Rees-Williams. They also enjoy bringing the songs of artists such as Nick Drake and Radiohead into their own musical world.
The RMP was honoured to work with noted producer Gerry Diver their debut EP Suite Antique. Two of the tracks were featured on Jazz FM, with Prelude being Track of the Week. They are currently writing and workshopping new material for their first full-length album, with a working title of Gingerbread Brutalism.
